Small businesses often mean small offices. I've almost completely eliminated the need for filing cabinets by scanning documents and keeping them in a remote area. This is now legal. Then, the originals go into a $50 a month storage area.
There are several companies that scans business documents that eliminate filing, make auditing easier, and keep the office paper-load down. Sourcecorp is a reputable Document Scanning Service. They save accounts payable invoices and employee files and store them at "ImageSilo". This company has a benefit over DIY because they scan documents at their facility.
